How to get to Tenakee Springs

Tenakee Springs is dependent on seaplanes and the Alaska Marine Highway for transport.

The City owns a seaplane base and heliport, and scheduled or chartered float planes are available from Juneau.

The State Ferry provides passenger transportation only, since there is no vehicle landing facilities or local roads in Tenakee.

Scheduled and charter flights can be obtained from Alaska Seaplane Service.  http://flyalaskaseaplanes.com/

Charter Flights can also be obtained from Ward Air. http://www.wardair.com/

The Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) provides regular ferry service to Tenakee from Juneau twice weekly.

Normal sailings May through September leave Juneau on Fridays and Sundays.  These sailings are paired with a stop in Hoonah.

Sailings during the winter months, October through April leave Juneau on Thursdays and Saturdays and are paired with a stop in Angoon.

Sometimes the AMHS reservation system will not show a Tenakee stop and will only reflect the Angoon or Hoonah stop.  This is a glitch in the system and the ferry does stop in Tenakee as well.  If the reservation system does not show the Tenakee stop, it’s recommended that you call the AMHS reservation call center at 800-642-0066.  The Auke Bay Ferry terminal may also be contacted to verify sailings to Tenakee 907-465-3940.

Scheduled Tenakee stops can also be viewed at http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/schedules.shtml  Make sure to look at both the Northbound and Southbound schedule for the Tenakee stops.
